Crispy Homemade Pita Crackers

Pita crackers are a delicious, crunchy snack that can be easily made at home with just a few ingredients. These crackers are perfect for dipping in hummus, guacamole, or tzatziki, or enjoying on their own as a light snack. Unlike store-bought versions, homemade pita crackers are healthier, fresher, and fully customizable with different seasonings like garlic, sesame, or rosemary.

Ingredients

  • 4 large pita breads (white or whole wheat)
  • 3 tablespoons olive oil
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon paprika (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon sesame seeds (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon dried rosemary or thyme (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat the Oven

  1. Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper for easy cleanup.

Step 2: Cut the Pita Bread

  1. Place the pita breads on a cutting board.
  2. Using a sharp knife or kitchen scissors, cut each pita into triangles or squares, like tortilla chips.
  3. If your pita bread has a pocket, separate the two layers for thinner, crispier crackers.

Step 3: Season the Crackers

  1. In a small bowl, mix olive oil, salt, pepper, garlic powder, paprika, and any optional seasonings.
  2. Brush or drizzle the seasoned oil evenly over the pita pieces.
  3. Sprinkle with sesame seeds or herbs for extra flavor.

Step 4: Bake Until Crispy

  1. Arrange the pita pieces in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  2. Bake for 10–15 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crisp.
  3. Keep an eye on them—they can burn quickly!

Step 5: Cool & Serve

  1. Remove from the oven and let the crackers cool completely.
  2. Serve with hummus, cheese, salsa, or yogurt dips.

Tips & Variations

  • For extra crunch: Bake at a lower temperature (325°F/165°C) for a longer time (20–25 minutes).
  • For a cheesy twist: Sprinkle grated Parmesan before baking.
  • For spicy crackers: Add chili flakes or cayenne pepper.
  • For a sweeter version: Brush with honey and cinnamon instead of savory seasonings.

These homemade pita crackers are a quick, easy, and healthier alternative to store-bought snacks. They stay crispy for up to a week when stored in an airtight container—perfect for meal prep! Enjoy them with your favorite dips or as a crunchy side for soups and salads. 🥙✨
